City Debate 2008

The Thirteenth City Debate took place at the Mansion House on Monday 28 January and the theme for this year's Debate will be Short Termism.

Motion: Short Termism is Bad for Business

Moderator: The Rt Hon Michael Portillo

Speakers For the Motion:

  • Will Hutton, Chief Executive, The Work Foundation
  • Terry Smith, Chief Executive, Tullett Prebon

Speaker Against the Motion:

  • Professor Ian Angell, The London School of Economics
  • David Lascelles, Senior Fellow, Centre for Study of Financial Innovation

Both sides put forward some compelling arguements but the final results saw 60% of the audience voting against the Motion.

The FOA would like to thank all the Speakers for a lively and interesting Debate.
