FOA Members and their guests gathered at the Mansion House on Monday 21 January for the City Debate 2002. This years Motion : This House believes that regulation keeps reinventing itself to hide the inevitability of its failure was eloquently proposed by Anthony Hilton, City Editor, The Evening Standard and Charles Flint QC. Arguing highly effectively the case against were Lord Fraser of Carmyllie and Theresa Villiers MEP ~ whose robust defence that, in order to remain effective and successful, regulation must continually reinvent itself succeeded in defeating the Motion. The debate was moderated by Michael Buerk, whose skilful management of both speakers and audience ensured a highly entertaining and informative occasion. The resulting votes were as follows:
The FOA remains particularly grateful to the Rt Hon The Lord Mayor for allowing the City Debate, which is in its seventh year, to be held at the Mansion House. The FOA also wishes to acknowledge all those who supported the City Debate in 2002, particularly our sponsors the London Clearing House and LIFFE.
