Senior Management Responsibility

The FOA is developing two courses on the responsibilities of senior managers.

The first course will be held in conjunction with Clifford Chance and the FSA and will be for senior managers in firms carrying on mainstream FSA authorised activities. The course will build upon the existing course run by the FSA entitled "The Commitments - Senior Managers and their competence" and will cover:-

- The interpretation of those FSA rules and requirements that affect senior managers;
- The adoption of practical processes and procedures to facilitate compliance by senior managers with their obligations;
- Best practise in corporate governance arrangements;
- Specific areas of difficulty including, for example, the impact of operational risk, the role of non-executive directors and applying the rules in the context of matrix management arrangements;
- Crisis management;
- FSA policy on supervision and enforcement;
- Related issues such as delegation of responsibility, inter-reliance, risk management, accounting and reporting and, particularly, the role of compliance and human resource functions.

The course will comprise three half-day sessions and will include presentations, practical case studies and specialist break-out sessions. For the convenience of senior managers, the sessions will be held over a period of three half day workshops over three weeks in late November/early December and, while we have not yet agreed on cost, the three half days will not exceed a total cost of £600 +VAT per person.

The second course will be held in conjunction with Denton Wilde Sapte and will be for senior managers in organisations engaged in energy, gas and power market dealings, particularly those participants which operate under FSA's special regulatory codes covering such dealings. The course will involve full participation by the FSA and will comprise a similar, but shorter, series of sessions to those set out above and is likely to be held over one full day in October. Fees have yet to be agreed, but the course will not exceed £300 per person for the day.

Full programmes for both course will be available shortly on the web site but in the meantime, if you are keen to provisionally reserve a place on either of the above then please register your interest with Julie Adolphus.

** Please state on your email which course (Senior Management - FSA/Clifford Chance or Senior Management - DWS) you require further details on along with your name, company details and email address **
